If Autumn Was An Artist

If Autumn Was An Artist

She would wear her corn silk hair in disarray and let it blow in the wind

She would be covered in fragrances of cedar and fresh cut firewood and flowers

If Autumn Was An Artist

She would hold a palette of acrylic paints in colors called rusted maple leaf, cornstalk, freshly plowed, newly harvested, and cerulean

If Autumn Was An Artist

She would brush the morning with palest hues and tints and shades, and cover the landscape in the most subtle layer of fog hanging just above the fields

If Autumn Was An Artist

She would cast sunlight at just such an angle to subdue the brilliance of her handiwork

If Autumn Was An Artist

In the evening she would use watercolors in apricot and tangerine and lavender to paint the sky and reflect the sea with the golden shimmer she keeps in a special place

If Autumn Was An Artist

She would soothe souls weary of summer, leave a sublime feeling in your heart, and you would love her.
