Out of Sync

His mind forgot

His body is old

He saw that ladder

And grabbed ahold

Like he has done a million times

In years gone by

He lands upon his back

Ends up a month in bed

He forgot he is not young

Her body forgot

Her mind is old

She saw that book she likes to hold

The pictures mean something

Of life gone by

She tries to remember as she sits by his bed

And cares for him just like they said

66 years

For better, for worse

In sickness and in health

Their minds and bodies

Out of sync

He thinks he can do anything

She does everything but knows not why

Getting old is hard, they think

What of this life that gets so hard

So tiresome in thoughts and deeds that do not match — the think and can

Their gift is prayer for younger ones

To let their strength become more strong

To help the weak when they succumb

And live a grateful life
