Let spring win

Lapping waves splash playfully against the sides of boats in the harbor. Gently swaying in the constant current.

Flapping wings of a manic duck skipping over the gentle ripples

Seagulls in tandem catching wind currents up then down then up again soaring and swooping as they chuckle to each other

Islands outlined in misty thin layers of low hanging clouds in an otherwise pale blue winter sky. Frosted hilltops surround the bay in tantalizing crisp white layers

Hazy Sunlight filters as the horizon pulls the yellow ball ever toward the edge of the sea and the days lengthen almost imperceptibly a minute at a time

Frosted morning now forgotten as winter pulls hearts toward spring.

Seasonal Nursery Rhyme

Ring around a rosy moon

Pockets full of mittened hands

Twilight sky in hues of blackened blues

Cold breath creating vapor clouds that drift in the crisp breeze, freezing tear-cicles in my eyes

Twinkles of little starlight dance amongst the parted skies revealing remnants of snowmen fading into lawns surrounded by buds longing to burst into daffodils

Cautious steps on hail slickened sidewalks tiptoe near the tulips emerging beneath the frozen soil

Spring continues to promise a glorious arrival if only winter would surrender its icy hold

Gold Medal Winter

Granite clouds drip golden honey sunbeams

Sagging barn window fills with with liquid golden sunlight

Slate islands form puzzle pieces on the horizon edged in golden ripples

Bare poplar giants reach into the golden light as brisk winds blow across fields of untouched, pristine snow reflecting golden shimmers

Winter pours out her heart in aching beauty and awards herself the gold medal in sunsets.

Mid February Beauty

Richness of crystal blue sky

Paled by feathered clouds

Hazy across gray blue olympics layered behind islands of the San Juan’s

Subtle ripples form in the stillness of placid salt water bay

Interrupted by coast guard waves and frigid breezes wafting crisp refreshment

Tentative sea gulls edging closer to people who may throw a scrap of bread and create a cacophony of mournful screams of delight

Mid February battle of seasons

Winter blanket covering spring’s hopes

Bitter wind blasting early buds

Daffodils and tulips and cherry blossoms wishing they could retreat

Storybook clouds racing across brilliant blue skies

Glimpses

Winter turned her face away

Glimpses of spring fill her momentary absence

Ominous dark clouds give way

Glimpses of rainbow sky promising beauty in the storm

Enticing the mind to forget that weeks of winter remain

First sprouts of hyacinth bulbs burst from the soggy soil

And daffodil leaves begin to form in anticipation

A glimpse of hope for future spring beauty

A momentary dream of fresh air gradually filling with sunshine and bumblebees

The rain downpours and darkens Daydreams of warm currents of air and that giddiness of spring fever quickly fades

Birds and Bees

Morning 
Sapphire dragon flies join the dance of the hummingbirds quickly turning and twirling and kissing the flowers. 
Intoxicating sweet lavender and crocosmia nectar on their tongues allows an uninhibited show of delightful flight. 
Hovering  overhead in a call for attention to their impassioned dance through the trees and flowers and into the clear blue abyss of morning. 
Evening 
Frenetic honeybees race from bud to bud as half moon rises high in the endless summer sky. 
Streaks of golden sunset clouds run parallel with the horizon.
 The heat of July’s farewell tribute subsides into a still coolness providing relief from the coming heatwave of August. 
The hummingbirds put on their final act of the day scolding one another for taking center stage as one then two then three chase each other into the end of another beautiful day. 

Breathtaking Majesty

Pristine mountaintops covered in brightest white reflecting perfectly in a deep blue lake. 
Emerald and jade forests surrounding crystal clear veins of glacial waterfalls. Hovering bees and tiny birds enjoy the view over the maze of trails. 
A dusty road leads to a high precipice. Still deep pure glacier water hesitates slightly, pausing before becoming torrential rushing waters crashing far below on its constant pull toward the sea. 

Hummingbird Waltz

Hummingbirds waltz in a dizzying series of whirls and twirls — up and over and down and around the pair stays in perfect synchrony. Apart they glide then hover then back together for another frantic dance. 
Red breasted robin marches and hesitates across the dried grass. Watching, waiting, filling her beak with breakfast then chirping her praise.
Rising sun casts long shadows highlighting tree tops and moss and rooftops with early rays. A perfect cerulean sky covering the new day. Still, cool air and heavy moistness of morning dew coats the earth in refreshment. A new day.
